Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American television journalist, commentator anchor and commentator for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language and culture from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as a radio and TV reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. She was a reporter for the CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. She was promoted to Washington general reporter for NBC News two years later. She began to cover the White House in 1981 and was promoted to chief congressional correspondent by 1988. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House correspondent in 1992 and the chief foreign affairs reporter in 1994 for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell is a regular in the TV news show Meet the Press as a panelist and host. Mitchell was a part of the panel during 1988 presidential debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in journalism. In 2004 in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's very first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. This period included the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell covered a range of noteworthy stories including arm control, budget tax reform as well as the Iran-contra scandal. Mitchell was frequently together with the president Reagan to summits alongside Mikhail Gorbachev and other world heads.
